The Taking Back the Radio Project
Taking Back the Radio was the music and media platform behind "The Movement," the Millennial revolution of 2014. Inspired by a lack of substance and originality in mainstream radio, our company set out to change American culture for the better through music and media. Our initial mission of providing more socially conscious music and resources for artists, evolved into a brand focused on improving our collective community through our growing media presence. Our iconic logo was one of the rallying calls behind the current political, social, and economic revolution of 2014 until...
Launching in April of 2014, within 3 months we acquired over 300,000 users and 20,000 visitors per day. We launched with no outside funding or prior media experience. A collective of college friends committed to problem solving issues, our mission was to provide an entertaining platform and stay true to our convictions of providing a voice to our generation through media. Through the initial success of the platform, we were able to do that. What happened next, nobody could have predicted...
What is 'The Movement?'
The Movement is the political, social and economic revolution of 'our' generation. No we are not Black Lives Matter. No they are not The Movement. See our blog for a preliminary explanation on their COINTEL. Starting as a rallying call away from the traditional 2 party system, the slogan/brand/movement has become the rallying cry around the issues that matter to our generation. Using the internet and social media, the slogan was spread across the globe gaining relevance as far as South Africa and the UK. Purposefully loosely defined for innovation, we are currently evolving from our 'awareness' phase, into our building phase. Our 1st goal was to mobilize the youth through media.
The Movement was completely grassroots. Funded by Taking Back the Radio LLC as well as other original movements self funding. Started to improve our political process, and provide a voice to our generation, the movement has grown into a collection of businesses, non-profits, organizations and activists working towards a better future for our country.
Is "Ferguson 'The Movement?'"
Yes and no. We don't speak for Ferguson's leadership. We do our best to help amplify their voices. The Protesters, organizations, and non-profits that rose out of the Police Corruption and Movement for black lives represent themselves. We are a media presence. Our strength is accuracy in coverage. Our techniques are unorthodox. But our information is always reliable. We have an 100% accuracy claim on our Twitter page representing accuracy in 1st hand reporting. We can help direct you to leaders who helped spark the Revolution that started real grassroots Movements across America. The real Ferguson activists, not those seen on television, are the activists who inspired the movement for black people. There would be no black lives matter movement without the citizens of Ferguson standing up, and starting their movement(s).
Can anyone be in 'The Movement?'
Yes and No. Since launch, we set certain guidelines to help secure and organize The Movement. We allowed in all grassroots organizations and individuals. Originally all leaders had to be Millennials. Party Officials or elected politicians were allowed to appeal to, but not represent The Movement. New Movements are wanted and welcomed, as long as the goal is to help everyone, and not harm The Movement meaning those working to make it a reality. True to our Original statements, we accept all people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity. We encourage Millennial leadership and started as a Millennial Movement, but welcome and help all generations.
